Activities

Golf

The Brackenridge Park Golf Course, heralded as the oldest public golf course in Texas, holds the distinction of being recognized as the first entrant into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. This historic golf course promises an enjoyable round in the heart of San Antonio. The golf course experienced a revival in 2008 after a $4.5 million renovation. Architect John Colligan restored fifteen of the original 18 holes; the course now measures 6,243 yards from the back tees (par-71). The front nine features a challenging layout with densely wooded areas, demanding precision in tee shots. The back nine offers a more open terrain, susceptible to brisk winds. Negotiating water hazards, numerous doglegs, and strategically positioned bunkers adds complexity to the course. Elevated greens and narrow fairways flanked by trees contribute to the enduring allure and challenge of the Brackenridge Park Golf Course.

Brackenridge Park Golf Course is a 10-minute drive from the Grand Hyatt San Antonio. The $260 registration fee includes transportation to and from the course as well as breakfast tacos before the tournament and a barbecue lunch following the round. Golf clubs may be rented from the course for $80.

The golf tournament will feature a shotgun start, and participants have the option to select their foursome during registration. A foursome is not required to participate in the PISC golf tournament. AFIA will do our best to honor all requests. Individuals who register for the tournament will be placed into foursomes.

AFIA reserves the right to cancel the golf tournament if registration does not meet the minimum number of people.

Goat Yoga

In 2024, we are pleased to offer PISC attendees the opportunity to participate in goat yoga. Join us Wednesday morning for a pre-conference goat yoga workout session that’s sure to be memorable! The yoga class will be led by a certified instructor at the hotel – and yes, there will be goats! Please note this class will be capped at 25 people so be sure to register early to guarantee a spot. The fee to register for goat yoga is $25.

AFIA reserves the right to cancel the yoga class if registration does not meet the minimum number of people.

Texas AgriTour

This year, following PISC, we are excited to offer an exclusive AgriTour for attendees. The towns of Poth and Floresville Texas are a 45-minute drive from the Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk and home to some of the area's finest working farms. This experience is designed to offer insights into Texas farming, a testament to the region's agricultural heritage and the hardworking individuals who contribute to its flourishing industry.

Experiences on the tour include:

  • Beef cattle ranching – offering insights into both seedstock and commercial operations.
  • Row crops and commodity marketing, featuring agricultural practices that sustain our communities.
  • Beef cattle processing and direct marketing with a visit to Dean & Peeler Meats.
  • Turfgrass and Sod farming (time permitting).

In addition to the private farm tours, the $165 registration fee also includes transportation and lunch at Maverick Grill in Floresville, TX on Thursday, March 14.

AFIA reserves the right to cancel this tour if registration does not meet the minimum number of people. Due to the nature of the tour and working farms, the itinerary is subject to change.

Thank you to the Texas Farm Bureau for their assistance in creating this itinerary on behalf of AFIA and PISC.
