Some go so far as to liken education to life itself. If you look at the benefits of education through a more fiscal lens, perhaps the quote below may resonate with you as well.

The Session offered crucial insights into THE regulatory changes members of the animal food industry can expect this year, including how they can stay informed and proactive in their compliance efforts.
The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) welcomed three new employees in the past six months: Taylor Lekin, Ivy Torres, and Madison Wyman. Last year, the American Feed Industry Association did something a little different at the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE). We partnered with the Pet Food Institute, the North American Renderers Association and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to bring a training to animal food members on how to complete export packets and conduct facility audits. The training was a success, and attendees wanted more content and face time with APHIS!
Continuing my blog series on industry titans, here’s another mover and shaker: John Starkey. John has been the president of the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association (USPOULTRY) for the last 16 years, after serving as USPOULTRY’s vice president of environmental programs for seven years. Prior to that, he worked a number of years in the poultry industry for Gold Kist and Hudson Foods, where he served as director of environmental affairs. I really got to know John through the American Feed Industry Association’s partnership with USPOULTRY on the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE). Below is our conversation.
When I was a feed mill manager, one of my least favorite things to do was keeping up with all of the changing regulations that our facility had to comply with to manufacture feed. A necessary evil, regulations help us to make safe animal food, keep our workers safe, protect our environment and keep the public safe, but they certainly make life difficult for manufacturers at times.
In the early part of 2020, shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic had been declared in the U.S., it was apparent that the business of agriculture would continue. Even facing down many challenges, the production of food, fuel and fiber pressed on. Looking through a lens of reverence and helpfulness, the American Feed Industry Association’s Nutrition Committee set about capturing the enduring spirit of our industry and disseminating it to those that could benefit from the experiences and philosophies of others.
The International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) Marketplace Week may be over, but the learning opportunities are far from done! IPPE’s TECHTalks, which are short educational presentations that discuss what the latest and greatest is out of the poultry, egg, meat and feed industries, are still available to watch on the IPPE Marketplace until Sunday, Feb. 28.
One of my favorite things about attending the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) is slowly walking the halls to see what exhibitors are showing. I am in awe at all the new technologies and the creativity behind creating them. Well, even though we can’t walk through the halls this year, we can still browse through really cool and innovative products and technologies through short company videos in the Innovation Station/New Product Showcase.
On Tuesday, more than 200 professionals across the pet food industry gathered virtually for the American Feed Industry Association’s 14th annual Pet Food Conference. Given that over the past year we have all faced challenges navigating the unrelenting coronavirus pandemic, it was uplifting to hear from several experts who said the pet food industry remains a bright spot for U.S. businesses and pet owners.
