Hats Off to AFIA Winners, Semi-Finalists for Liquid Feed Facility of the Year Recognitions

This week, we proudly recognized Westway Feed Products’ Houston, Texas, feed manufacturing facility with the American Feed Industry Association’s 2023 Liquid Feed Facility of the Year (FFY) award!

Managed by Tommy Flowers, the plant focuses on mill product, dairy and beef mixes and shipped 148,000 tons last year. The company keeps detailed tracking of quality and productivity performance and last year, improved its productivity by 10%, decreasing labor costs by $3.44/ton and increasing tons by manhours by 5.13. The plant also recently installed two new mixing tanks to improve its mixing performance and efficiency. The plant has an excellent focus on employee training and safety programs.

We also would like to recognize semi-finalists in the liquid feed FFY segment: Quality Liquid Feeds’ Comstock Park, Mich., Wellsville, Ohio, and Port Barre, La., facilities. High marks for: safety went to Performix Nutrition’s Rupert, Idaho, facility; quality and food safety went to Quality Liquid Feeds’ Muskogee, Okla., facility; productivity and efficiency and sustainability went to Quality Liquid Feeds’ Comstock Park, Mich., facility.

We are proud of the work our members do to continuously strive for excellence in their operations, which leads to safer and higher quality animal food and improves safety for their employees in their workplaces.
