The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA), in partnership with Feedstuffs and the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY), named Mountaire Farms’ Scotland County feed mill in Maxton, N.C., as its 2023 Integrator Feed Facility of the Year. Gary Huddleston, AFIA’s director of feed manufacturing and regulatory affairs, presented the award last Thursday to plant manager Hector Pacheco during the USPOULTRY Feed Mill Management Seminar.
Most of us enjoy performing an act of kindness that benefits someone else. Whether it is spending time working with a local charity or just simply donating to a cause, we get a warm feeling inside when we can help others. Rarely do we have an opportunity to do something that truly brings about both a personal benefit as well as a benefit to others. With the Feed Facility of the Year (FFY) program, we now do, which is a win-win for industry.

Last week, I had the honor of presenting PerforMix Nutrition Systems’ Rupert, Idaho, feed manufacturing facility with the American Feed Industry Association’s 2021 Liquid Feed Facility of the Year (FFY) award. “A clean work area is a safe work area.” That is the messaging prominently displayed at the Koch Farms mill located in Morton, Miss., and, to mill manager Frank Garczynski those aren’t merely words. A clean facility and a safe work environment go hand in hand and are the center of his team’s daily mission.
What makes a feed facility “the best?” Modern equipment, efficient operations and high-quality ingredients are all very important aspects, but it goes beyond that.
